Red Bull Junior Dan Ticktum racked up two thirds and a fourth at the Nürburgring and hangs onto the lead in the FIA F3 European Championship with six races remaining. The 19-year-old Briton was quick throughout the event, ending Free Practice in second place and taking third all the way through qualifying in his Motopark Dallara Volkswagen.

“It was a solid enough weekend, not particularly eventful,” explained Ticktum. “It is a shame qualifying wasn’t a little better, down to me in first session, a little more the car in the second and round here there is nowhere to pass, you just can’t get close enough.”

Keep going forward

“The team worked hard at it all weekend, we all did but we never quite found the sweet spot and we were struggling with understeer. That is where I lost a place at the start of Race 3, the track had got hotter and I really fought all the way through to hold fourth. I was knackered by the end, just working at the car the whole race.”

“There were a few people shaking their heads this weekend as someone has found a bit of pace from somewhere, a bit of a mystery but that’s not my problem. I am just keeping my head down and working with the guys to make the best out of what we’ve got and we are looking forward to the Red Bull Ring. That’s a great track and I think we can do a really good job there,” enthused the points leader.
